Homeland Security

The federal government is implementing video surveillance to help combat everything from traffic offenses to terrorist activity to illegal immigration. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's FY06 budget, for example, earmarked $51.1 million for the America's Shield Initiative, which enhances electronic-surveillance capabilities along our borders; that's an increase of $19.8 million over FY05. In August 2005, New York's transit authority awarded Lockheed Martin a $212 million contract, which includes installation of 1,000 cameras and related equipment in city subway stations, bridges and tunnels.

Digital Video Recorder

The digital video recorder is a great new innovation in the world of closed circuit television surveillance. Digital video recording is becoming widely popular because it gives you so much freedom in recording. With the latest video server technology, you can actually view live action or action that you have already recorded while continuing to record. Reviewing will never come at the expense of present recordings.

Installing a digital video recorder (or DVR) server allows you to save space and time. Other recording servers require several different pieces of equipment in order to get the results you will get from a single DVR server. This combination device replaces the time-lapse VCRs, the multiplexer that allows multiple signal inputs and the video server necessary for remote surveillance. That sounds like a lot of complex equipment, doesn’t it? Imagine getting all of that in one slim, comprehensive unit.

Digital video recorder servers typically have four, nine, or sixteen security camera inputs, giving you the flexibility to implement whatever camera system suits you best. Other great benefits and features include:

Remote access at all times  Better pausing for still images

Improved storage, especially over long periods of time

Easy installation ●  Clear image copying  Long recording times

Internal web server    Picture in picture and zoom    Hard drive for storage

Digital makes video surveillance faster, clearer, and more efficient.

Digital video surveillance made complete sense as the price of digital recording dropped with the computer revolution. Rather than changing tapes daily, the user could reliably record a month’s worth of surveillance on hard drive because of compression capability and low cost.

The images recorded digitally were so much clearer than the often grainy images recorded with analog that recognition was immediately improved for police, private investigators and others utilizing video surveillance for identification purposes. With digital technology you could also manipulate the images to improve clarity even further by adding light, enhancing the image, zooming in on frames, etc.

The Internet revolution in video surveillance:

The internet has enabled video surveillance to be instituted virtually anywhere and be watched from anywhere in the world. With satellites bouncing signals around the globe, you can now watch anyone anywhere from your laptop. The eye in the sky is a reality with digital streaming video.

Streaming video is set up as a remote system so that you can monitor your site from anywhere in the world with Internet access because the images are video archived on a remote web server. The quality is outstanding, with high compression (1800:1 in some cases) for storage and features like motion-activation and email alerting when there is activity if you wish. The Internet has truly revolutionized video surveillance by removing all boundaries for viewing anywhere in the world

Video Surveillance System Helps Small Business Prevent Internal and External Loss

Small businesses suffer heavily from employee theft and shoplifters. According to the 2001 National Retail Security Survey conducted by the University of Florida, 46% of the $32 billion in total retail theft losses nationwide are due to employee theft.

Statistics have proven video surveillance is the best way to reduce the losses and protect your assets. With the newest remote surveillance technology, you can monitor your business from anywhere anytime. You can be aware what is happening while you are not there.
